Holiday Meal Plan

This Thanksgiving I decided to do something a little different with our Thanksgiving menu. Im being super pickey with my choices of dishes to prepare. Only those I swear that I  absolutely love will make the cut.

Because I don’t consider myself a Chef in the kitchen I was a little intimidated by some of the recipes I saw. But after running across

Divas Can Cook

Caribbean Pot

Chef Bourque

PhillyboyJayCooKiNgShow1

Laura in the Kitchen

I realized that I am visual learner 100% . These videos make things so much easier for me. Reading recipes out of a book does not inspire me, but watching these videos really make me want to cook something.

When I eat something I love….I then go find a video & actually make the recipe myself. If it turns out well & my family loves it…. I add it to my Thanksgiving Meal Video List. Then in the Month of November I look over the list to ensure this is everything I want to make & I order ingredients from Amazon Fresh & everything is delivered straight to my door. Talk about easy.

So if you’ve been  wanting to try something a little different for Thanksgiving,  I recommend  you try this simple meal plan.

  1. No long lines in the Grocery Store
  2. Not wondering if you forgot anything
  3. No lugging bags home

You won’t regret you did!

Metro Shelving with Casters

So I recently organized a Garage and a Butlers Pantry with this XL Metro Shelving (60″ wide by 24″ deep by 72″ tall).  It’s so versatile it can go in any space. The love the durability of the shelf as well as the smooth locking casters make moving these items a breeze.

Note: Weight capacity on wheels (evenly distributed): 160 lbs. per shelf/Weight capacity on feet levelers: 800 lbs. per shelf

This Metro shelving can be purchased anywhere but this paticular shelving unit is way larger than any of the ones you would buy at Home Depot or Lowes.  These are more so for Commercial Kitchens or Warehouse Storage spaces.

For an additional cost Heavy duty Liners can be purchased for the wire shelves if needed. Having organized shelving 0n Casters really changes the game of organization. I also know that The Container Store Large Jumbo Boxes fit perfect on these shelves.

My favorite Tote Boxes are from the Container Store. I used Ladies, Mens & Jumbo Clear boxes to store all the belongings.

No stress method to packing for a cruise with little effort?

Carnival Paradise

IMG_9080-300x225 No stress method to packing for a cruise with little effort?

As I watched videos on what to take on a cruise. I didn’t want to break the bank buying unnecessary things so….. I started a Travel Bin in a Mens Shoe Box but….I  filled that up to fast and did’nt have any room to grow. Therefore, I moved everything into a Deep sweater box from the Container Store & that worked better.

I like for  everything in my luggage must be neatly organized. So….I started looking at new Packing cubes & ended up purchasing these.

IMG_9080-300x225 No stress method to packing for a cruise with little effort?

They worked pretty well. I have no complaints at all. I went with this loud green color to ensure they didn’t blend into the State Room bedding, carpet or bathroom space & get left behind.

So after checking off

  1. Luggage
  2. Packing Cubes

I moved on to the necessary toiletries. I found a list online that seemed to cover everything. So I printed it out months in advance to keep in my Travel Bin (Deep Sweater Box).

IMG_9080-300x225 No stress method to packing for a cruise with little effort?

Anything I wanted  to take on the trip … I just dropped into this bin so I didn’t have to look for anything once it was time to pack.IMG_9080-300x225 No stress method to packing for a cruise with little effort?

I kept my checklist & pen in the same bin on a clipboard so that I could easily mark off anything I added to the bin.

IMG_9080-300x225 No stress method to packing for a cruise with little effort?

Then after I came back from the cruise I simply dropped all my travel items back in this bin until my next trip. #SuperSimple. Once unpacked I stored the packing cubes inside my Luggage.

******These Two Are Must Haves *******

One thing mentioned on the checklist was a Power Strip because most Staterooms only have one plug. Being the organizer I am, I took a Power strip with me which was convenient since we all had gadgets to plug up.

Although I will be purchasing another PowerStrip that is majority USB connection to keep in my Travel Bin. I wanted more usb ports so that I wouldn’t have to bring all these cords & Plug square( the part that plugs in). Some are bulkier than others….. Id rather plug into the usb port.

IMG_9080-300x225 No stress method to packing for a cruise with little effort? IMG_9080-300x225 No stress method to packing for a cruise with little effort?

One thing that wasn’t on any of the list were Paper Towels. My mom and I found that we always wanted a paper towel to wipe our hands. I did have wet wipes but we also needed dry paper towels.  The Cruise line  put’s great effort into not littering in the beautiful sea so…..you will only find small Paper Towels in the Bar area or the Visitor Bathrooms around the boat. In the dining areas they only provide cloth napkins. That way the don’t have to increase cruise cost to cover paying a team on a boat to follow the ship to clean up any waste dropped in the sea.

So next time I will bring 1 roll of paper towels in my checked luggage.

My favorite cleaning products.

img_9842 My favorite cleaning products. So I always order my cleaning products from The Grove Collaborative.

img_9842 My favorite cleaning products.
I love the fact that they cost less than what my local retailers sells them for. They are non-toxic, smell great & are delivered to my door step. Talk about great time management.  Not to mention that The Gove Callobaritive gives you free items to try.

img_9842 My favorite cleaning products.

So….. For a while now I’ve been wanting to try the Mrs. Meyers Laundry line. They recently offered these items free with a $20 purchase, so I jumped on that deal…… Once my order arrived I quickly unboxed it all. Right then and there I knew I had a date with our home the next day.  These products smell so good I was overly anxious to use them.
I started with my Mrs. Meyers Basil multi surface cleaner in my Master Bathroom.  The wonderful basil smell filled my rooms and that made me wipe every surface in my space. I cleaned like I was being graded.

img_9842 My favorite cleaning products.

img_9842 My favorite cleaning products.

I cleaned everything…. I emptied kitchen drawers & cleaned inside every utensil drawer.

img_9842 My favorite cleaning products.img_9842 My favorite cleaning products. Then moved on to wiping down my cabinets and the counter tops.

img_9842 My favorite cleaning products.
Then I started washing the dishes with my new Method HoneyCrisp Apple dish soap and OMG! The scent coming from that  was heavenly.

So my Wednesday was filled with nothing but cleaning. I used Mrs. Meyers & Method products to clean all the following spaces.

In and Out Zone:

In and Out Zone:

Alejandra Castillo made a video about this topic. I absolutely agree 100 % that this a necessary area. I believe everyone needs a “In & Out ” area.Check out her video here.

In-and-Out-zone-copy-300x160 In and Out Zone:

  • Returns to the store
  • Borrowed items from friends or family
  • Items I need to take back to work etc…
  • Packages to mail
  • Donations to drop off

Anything that wont stored in your home permanently.  These are usually the items that end up landing on the back of a chair, the door knob or floor if there is no other place to place things. I usually advise for this area to live in the garage or closest to the door you enter & exit through. Take a look at my organized Entry Way Pinterest Board.

Thinking about starting a blog?

If you’ve been thinking about starting a blog I say “Go for it!” I recently started this one and I have done so by reading & watching You Tube videos. I’ve thought about it for a while but didn’t really know how it all worked.  I started my journey in March of 2017. It’s now a month later and everything is pretty much setup. I just need to fine tune a few items and continue to add relevant content.

I use Host Gator who is awesome I think. I had to call support once & they quickly helped me out. I have multiple domains and they area all through HostGator.

I’m starting a Paleo lifestyle…….

I’m tired of feeling bad, so I’m starting a Paleo lifestyle

I am now 43 years of age and I truly understand that I have to do better when it comes too my health. I’m one of those people who does not get enjoyment out of working out. For me its just no fun. I cannot cling to or focus on the fact that I will ” Have more energy later” or ” look & feel great in the end”.  Because of all the pain I’m going through just to get this new routine started.

Like my father, I am a person who is always busy. I getting up everyday and do “stuff”. I don’t just sit around on the couch all day working the remote. Usually I’m constantly moving. I work on my organizing projects around the house in between sitting at my desk for a few hours at a time. This way Im not sitting all day long.

In effort to live a totally natural lifestyle I’m changing a lot of the habits we have… especially our habits around food. I usually shop at Costco or Sam’s Club. I do this because buying in bulk is cheaper. I ran across a cook book that I am so interested in. I’ve already ordered this cookbook and I anticipate it’s arrival….

Quick Paleo recipes made in 30 minutes of less

I received this book The Fat Burning Kitchen for free… I only paid for shipping….

I figure as long as I move about on a regular basis and eat healthy, I should live a long healthy life. Our new Paleo Lifestyle is going to help tremendously. Not eating processed foods make all the difference in the world in how we feel. Personally I do not feel my best. I’m quite sure it’s due to my eating habits.

If you will notice I say start a Paleo lifestyle…. and not start a Paleo diet. I learned long ago that “diets” do not work…. to me diets are like medicine. They are nothing more than temporary band aids for a problem.  I don’t want a temporary fix. I want a permanent solution.  I want to eat tasty, healthy meals on a daily basis. Really…..how much is that to ask. Once I receive my new cook books I’ll keep you posted on our progress. Feel free to order your own copy and keep in touch and let me know what you think. We can be each others accountability partner. I know I’ll need one… 🙂 How about you?

A Tiny Laundry Space in Dallas

I have a Tiny Laundry space by design.  Learning what works for you & your family is what is always best when your trying to become more organized. In our case, we were forced to rebuild our home due to being hit by a Tornado back on 4/3/12.

overhead-view-210x300 A Tiny Laundry Space in Dallas

This disaster gave me the opportunity to recreate our entire home exactly how I wanted it.  Wow!!! was I excited & seized the opportunity. One of my chores that I don’t like completing is folding laundry. I absolutely despise it. I had to be honest with myself and be sure to create a functional space that I could manage.  If I had built a large Laundry space with a big folding table as seen below, I would have been creating my own problems.

I absolutely love this laundry space but….

overhead-view-210x300 A Tiny Laundry Space in Dallas
Laundry folding table

This would have turned into a catch all area. The freshly washed clothes would have ended up sitting on the table and I would come up with every excuse in the book not to immediately fold & hang the clothes. Therefore, I created a small laundry area that works well for me. It’s small & functional. It’s just enough space to wash, dry & immediately fold and or hang our clothing. Not to mention it’s in our Master bathroom suite area near the closet.  So when showering, our clothes end up going right into the sorting hamper. Talk about convenient.

I love this & it work’s sooooooooo well for us.

overhead-view-210x300 A Tiny Laundry Space in Dallas

This space was designed/built for the washer & dryer to sit side by side (which is why you can see the dryer vent & power cord). After a while  of living with them side by side I wanted to stack the appliances to save space. Currently I feel like I want a new style Top Loader which doesn’t have the center agitator. If you have had a Front loader but switched too the new Top Loader (any brand) that I speak of Id love to hear your opinion. Currently Im thinking about going with these.

I love the fact that it doesn’t have an agitator in the center.

So….

As a professional Organizer I urge you if possible to design your spaces so that they work well for you. It doesn’t matter that it’s not a typical setup. What matters most is that it makes your day to day life simple. When things are simple they are so much easier to keep organized. I ask you what laundry dilemmas are you experiencing? Is the flow not ideal? or maybe you feel like you dont have enough space.  Let me know, Id love to help you in any way I can.

Feel free to like & follow my organized Laundry Board’s on Pinterest.

If you enter your garage I recommend something like this to catch everything:

that way your entrance can be more decorative like this:
In-and-Out-zone-copy-300x160 In and Out Zone: In-and-Out-zone-copy-300x160 In and Out Zone: In-and-Out-zone-copy-300x160 In and Out Zone: In-and-Out-zone-copy-300x160 In and Out Zone: In-and-Out-zone-copy-300x160 In and Out Zone: In-and-Out-zone-copy-300x160 In and Out Zone: In-and-Out-zone-copy-300x160 In and Out Zone:

But if you enter through the front door I recommend function over aesthetics. This means you will want lots of matching Bins for things like scarves, gloves, hats etc….
